Guitar, mandola and vocals.
Mick Giblin from Galway had an early exposure to traditional Irish music having listened to local and visiting musicians in his family’s bar on Sunday mornings. Mick learnt to play while taking extended lunch breaks from school and afterwrds hitting the house party circuit in college playing folk and ballads. After emigrating to the U.S. in 1987 he discovered a wealth of music and was completely converted to traditional music through exposure to players like Arty McGlynn, Mark Kelly, Daithi Sproule, Micheal O’Domhnaill on the Irish end and Dougie Maclean, Dick Gaughan and Tony McManus on the Scottish end. After Mick returned home to Ireland he recorded with the piper Mick O’Brien and fiddler Terry Crehan from Dublin on “The May Morning Dew”. Subsequently he toured with Mick, Terry, Niamh De Burca, Tom Morrow, Brendan Larrissey, Gerry (fiddle) O’Conner and played with Noel Hill and Tony Linnane for the launch of their reunion album. He has also recorded with the McNamara Family from Leitrim on “Leitrim’s Hidden Treasures” and with Niamh De Burca on her debut album “In Áit a Bhuil do Chroí”.
Mick moved to Abu Dhabi in 2002 where he thought it was all over but discovered to his delight that not only was there interest but enthusiastic musicians! He counts himself lucky with the friendships that music has brought and reckons that they will have to prise the guitar from his fingers in order to close the lid!!
